Final leg GDL-Vallarta toll road set to open soon

The final stretch of the Guadalajara-to-Puerto Vallarta toll road (often referred to as the Vía Corta, or short route) is nearing completion, federal authorities say.

This section covers 32.2 kilometers, running between the turnoff to Bucerías and La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, and the Puerto Vallarta International Airport.

The idea of a continuous toll road (autopista) between Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta was first proposed in the 1980s but only started becoming a reality over the past decade. Significant progress has been made in the last three years, with segments opening at various times.

This week, as the final toll booths were being installed near the Vallarta Airport, authorities announced the fees. The cost for this last section will be 223 pesos, and it is expected to save drivers 25 minutes compared to using the existing Federal Highway 200 (la libre, or free road).

With this final addition, the total cost for the six toll booths between Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta will amount to 1,291 pesos — or nearly 2,600 pesos for a round trip.

The toll booths and their fees are: El Arenal (193 pesos), Plan de Barrancas (288 pesos), Amado Nervo (193 pesos), La Peñita (171 pesos), Bucerías (223 pesos) and Aeropuerto (223 pesos).
