Jalisco governor confronts ‘profound wound’ of missing persons in first annual report

Striking a tone that blended sober acknowledgment of profound challenges with a confident report on his administration’s first-year achievements, Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro presented his First Government Report on Saturday.

“There are those who want to hide it, lock it away, or sweep it under the rug. But for me, the most important thing is to make it visible,” Governor Lemus stated, directly confronting what he termed the “principal tragedy” facing both Jalisco and Mexico. In a powerful moment, he stood before collectives of families searching for their loved ones and announced a 172 percent increase in the budget allocated to the search for missing persons. “Recognizing a problem is the first step to solving it,” he affirmed.
