Bullfighting
Famed rejondeador Pablo Hermoso de Mendoza continues his winter tour through Mexico with a return to the metro area on Thursday, March 19, to top the bill at a nocturnal bullfight at the Plaza de Toros El Centenario in the center of Tlaquepaque.
The Spaniard is considered the world’s greatest exponent of rejon, fighting bulls on horseback, which is actually older than the traditional variety. It involves a spectacular show of horsemanship, as well as a breathtaking dance of man, horse and bull. High-bred and valuable horses are trained for and specialize in various parts of the bullfighting act, with the horseman using up to five different horses against one bull.
Hermoso de Mendoza is joined by rejoneadora Monica Serrano and Tapatio novillero Carlos Casanueva.
Also on the bill are the popular Forcados Mazatlecos, a team of eight daredevils, who take on bulls face to face, without capes, to provide thrills such as the pega de cara or “face catch” – catching the bull by the horns and the tail.
The event starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are from 350 to 1,150 pesos.
