The Chapala government paid tribute to local teachers for their service and dedication at a Dia de Maestros (Teacher’s Day) ceremony held Tuesday, May 15 at the Centro Cultural Antigua Presidencia.
Acting Mayor Oscar España and Education Director David Michel presided at the event, accompanied by school supervisors from the Jalisco Ministry of Education and a representative of the community’s parents.
Certificates of appreciation were handed out to 11 teachers who have exercised their profession for 30 years, and nine more were acknowledged for special merit in the field.
At the close of the ceremony, the authorities crossed the street to place a floral tribute at the monument to maestros set in the medium strip. At lunchtime, hundred of teachers gathered at La Cristiania Park for the traditional comida thrown by City Hall.
