Honoring the fallen: Memorial Day observed by Post 7

Memorial Day, a U.S. federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May, honors the men and women who gave their lives while serving in the Armed Forces.

As is tradition at Lakeside, American Legion Post 7 will host a solemn Memorial Day ceremony on Monday, May 26 at 10 a.m. in the foreign section of the Chapala cemetery. The event will honor fallen members of the U.S., Canadian, British, and Mexican military. The program includes a presentation of the colors, the singing of national anthems, remarks from representatives of various service organizations and government agencies, and the laying of memorial wreaths.

More than 130 military veterans are buried or memorialized in the cemetery’s foreign section. Their gravesites will be adorned with floral arrangements and flags in tribute to their service and sacrifice.

The main entrance to the foreign section is located on Calle Venustiano Carranza, just past the elevated gates of the Panteón Municipal.
