Firefly races set for after-dark runners

Does holding competitive foot races in the month of May sound like a daft idea? Think again.

For runners who try to keep in shape year-round, there’s Firefly Nocturna, an after-dark contest coming up in Chapala on Saturday, May 31, 7 p.m.

The two-pronged race is open in male and female divisions with a choice of distances for five or ten kilometers. The route runs along the waterfront Malecón and through the center of town on Avenidas Madero and Hidalgo, with a double loop to complete the full 10K.

The inscription fee of 400 pesos per person includes a commemorative medal, jersey and number badge, plus hydration provisions at a station near the three-kilometer mark. Kits will be distributed between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the stand on the median strip in front of City Hall.

Registrations are accepted in person at Restaurant LetraCH, through WhatsApp to 33-2258-9647 with receipt of payment by bank transfer or deposit in Oxxo, or online at www.metadeportiva.com/.
