Marvin and Helaine Harthcock  are well known fixtures in the Lakeside landscape. For 18 years the couple has always been willing to lend a hand and help out when and where needed.

Rotary International expanded into Chapala when District 4150 approved Club 86070, the Sunrise Rotary Club of Chapala, on June 30. The new group’s 32 charter members (which includes 15 former Rotarians) join the global association of 33,000 clubs in more than 200 countries.

Of the new programs being unveiled by the Lake Chapala Society (LCS) the most valuable may be Experimenta Mexico, a new multi-cultural series of programs for both Mexicans and expats.

The Virgin of Zapopan made a regal entrance to Chapala last Sunday riding aboard a float adorned with a huge floral arrangement and life-size models of the recently sainted 20th century Popes John XXIII and John Paul II.

The only thing that depressed Glenda Lacy after she moved into her home on the upper Ajijic street of San Juan de las Colinas was the sight of acres of weeds choking the empty lots that studded her new neighborhood.

Summer rains have turned upper Ajijic’s Arroyo del Tepalo into a natural playground for local families.

Kids take special delight in splashing in the cool waters that are now streaming down the three waterfalls located along the popular hiking path.
