I want to commend you for noting in your report on last week’s “anti-crime forum” that it included “no mention of extenuating circumstances such as the depressed U.S. economy, troubles in the real estate market there and alarming north-of-the-border media reports on Mexico’s war on the drug cartels.”

I receive NYTimes headline news online each day. In worldwide coverage, and national coverage, they include only the highlights. Last Saturday, there was someone shooting random motorists in Hollywood, there was murder run wild on the Virginia Tech campus, there was shooting in a Texas middle school, and at least two other headlines I’ve forgotten. Just the highlights, not the everyday occurrences.
