Chapala’s Boca Laguna water ski club will be the venue for the opening round of competition in Mexico’s 2015 National Wakeboard Championship circuit, set for this weekend.
Competitors will arrive Friday, June 26 to warm up at practice session slated to start around 1 p.m., with the contest line-up for male and female divisions at different skill levels to be announced at 7 p.m.
The competition kicks off at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, running throughout the rest of the day.
Wakeboarding is a water sport that combines techniques of water skiing, snowboarding and surfing. The rider is towed behind a motorboat, utilizing the wake of the vessel as a ramp to perform tricks that may reach a height as much as five meters above the surface. Judges score each contestant on the execution, intensity and composition of his or her individual tricks.
Boca Laguna features an artificial lake specially designed for water ski sports. The facility is located just off the Chapala-Mezcala highway, approximately 4.5 kilometers east of the intersection of Avenida Gonzalez Gallo and Pepe Guizar. The gates of the club will be open to the public on both days.
Chapala’s Boca Laguna water ski club has been selected to host the 2015 World Waterski Championships, scheduled for November 15-22.
