Atlas men, Chivas women face uphill road

Guadalajara’s two professional soccer clubs have tricky tasks to negotiate this weekend.

After qualifying for the Liga Mx playoffs, the Atlas men lost in their quarter final home leg Thursday at the Estadio Jalisco against regular season league table toppers Monterrey. The 1-2 deficit will be hard to redress in the return game this Sunday up north but the red-and-blacks will no doubt give their all. Meanwhile, the Chivas ladies reached the final of the women’s Liga Mx. They lost the first game on the road to Pachuca Monday 0-2, but have a chance to redeem themselves in the season’s final game at the Omnilife Stadium on Friday evening.  Monday’s game saw a record  27,000 fans fill Pachuca’s stadium – a fantastic achievement that bodes well for the future of women’s professional soccer in Mexico.
