The public assembly called by Comité Ciudadano Ajijic Pueblo Mágico attracted a small but vocal audience of around 20 village residents who expressed concerns about living conditions in the town, deficient public services, and negative impacts that might arise from increased tourism and urban development.
After introducing himself and fellow committee members, Alejandro Sahagún did his best to change the topic of discussion from well-known problems to possible solutions that will benefit inhabitants and visitors alike. He has been actively involved in four roundtable meetings organized by Jalisco’s Department of Tourism for the purpose of analyzing key issues that trouble the state’s nine Pueblo Mágico destinations. The topics were Urban Image, Mobility, Waste Management, and the new model for Magic Town tourist agents. He said findings from the conferences including suggestions to remedy specific problems, that should be released within the coming week.
