Holy Week pageantry brings Easter story to life

In lakeside’s predominantly Roman Catholic communities, the Easter season is marked by the most transcendent of its many religious celebrations and the traditional public pageants that bring to life biblical accounts of the Passion of Christ.


Palm Sunday traditions

Semana Santa gets underway on Palm Sunday – March 24 – with religious processions and church services commemorating Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Pilgrims carry herbal bouquets or symbolic figures fashioned from palm fronds purchased from street vendors, to be blessed with holy water by the clerics.

Chapala mayor facing suspension

Chapala Mayor Joaquin Huerta has been threatened with  a possible 15-day forced suspension from his duties, without pay, stemming from a labor suit filed against the city by a former city hall official.

Chapala honors outstanding women

As part of a week-long agenda of special events scheduled in commemoration of  International Women’s Day, Chapala’s DIF family development agency and the Municipal Historical Archives put together Women Who Made History, a tribute to 20 individuals, living and dead,  recognized for their outstanding contributions to the community. The honor roll included three distinguished expatriates who left their own indelible marks at lakeside.
