After a successful first edition in 2023, the U.S.-Mexico Kaleidoscope short film contest and festival returns for a second year.
The contest seeks to encourage new narratives about the impact of the relationship between the United States and Mexico.
The theme for 2024 is “community.” In the spirit of cross-cultural collaboration, Kaleidoscope is encouraging filmmakers of all kinds—amateurs and professionals—to grab their cameras (or phones!) and tell a story of community. “Whether it is with your family, at school, in the workplace, on a team, or whatever your community looks like, Kaleidoscope wants to get to know it,” the promotional material says.
Films must be from two to 12 minutes in length, and may cover any genre. They can be submitted in any language but should have subtitles in English or Spanish if not in either of those two languages. All short films should be uploaded through the FilmFreeway website at filmfreeway.com. (Just type U.S.-Mexico Kaleidoscope in the search engine.)
