Within the framework of the Guadalajara World Book Capital 2022, Parque Agua Azul is hosting an exhibit of eye-catching murals created by individual artists on five-meter-wide metal panels lining the park’s imposing entrance near the city center.

Distinguished musicians will perform in Guadalajara this summer—coming from points as near as Guadalajara and as distant as New York City—to add their finesse to the first programs of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ) that will utilize guest players since March 2020, when the pandemic began to undercut culture here. 

The Conjunto Santander de Artes Escenicas in Guadalajara is hosting a production of “Bastien and Bastienne,” a one-act (45-minute) comic opera written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart at the age of 12, with performances on May 14 and 15.

A collection of 40 intriguing and often quirky sculptures by 17 mostly local artists will grace the inside courtyard area of the colonial Palacio Municipal in downtown Guadalajara through June.

With his return to Guadalajara to play in the 2022 Festival Cultural de Mayo, Vadym Kholodenko will undoubtedly attract attention due to his proficiency and the current high profile of his birthplace in Kyiv, Ukraine. But Kholodenko has also gained attention from a tragedy that unfolded years ago in Texas.

Although Ukraine falls last in the alphabetical listing of the homelands of performers in the 2020 Festival Cultural de Mayo, the war-torn country seems destined to attract the most attention in this year’s line-up in Guadalajara, and not just because of the bombs and refugees.
