Celebrating culture, art and female power in Ajijic

The Michicihualli Festival returns for its fourth edition to honor the cultural and natural richness of the region March 6 to 8.

pg13Inspired by the legend of Michicihualli, the guardian and deity of the waters of Lake Chapala, this event will feature activities that blend ancestral traditions, artistic expressions, and environmental awareness and coincides with the celebration of International Women’s Day.

Today, Lakeside faces increasingly severe environmental challenges: rapid urban growth, biodiversity loss, pollution, and its impact on public health. Given this reality, it is essential to create spaces for discussion, connection, and the celebration of resilience embodied by this guardian deity.

This is the spirit behind the Michicihualli Festival, which this year aims to foster a sense of community, promote sustainability, celebrate female power, and serve as a platform for organizations and civil projects that impact the region. The program will include workshops, discussion panels, an art exhibition, a pilgrimage, a traditional market, a food area, and more.

The festival is organized by La Cochera Cultural, a nonprofit space dedicated to promoting holistic well-being through cultural, artistic, and educational events. It is located at Calle Javier Mina 49, in the San Sebastián neighborhood of Ajijic.
