Animal rescue in Mexico suffered a serious blow during the presidency of Enrique Peña Nieto, when the federal government decided to shut down its entire network of 11 Wildlife Conservation and Rehabilitation Centers.

Mixtlán is a small town located about halfway between Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. Its name means “the place of the clouds,” but in recent years it has become better known as the land of mushrooms.
