The Jalisco Health Department (SSJ) has launched its 2025 Lent Sanitary Surveillance Operation to promote hygiene in the preparation and sale of seafood.
Running until April 27, the operation includes 600 inspections across establishments in Zapopan, Guadalajara and other municipalities, focusing on seafood vendors, fish markets and establishments handling purified water, ice and prepared foods.
The goal is to protect public health by preventing foodborne illnesses such as gastroenteritis, diarrhea and cholera, which can result from consuming improperly handled seafood or contaminated water. The operation includes visits to more than 80 vendors at the Mercado del Mar in Zapopan, the state’s largest seafood market.
