Laguna Chapalac - April 27, 2013

The next meeting of the Genealogy Forum will take place Monday, April 29, 2 p.m. in the Sala at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS).  This month Marci Bowman will discuss all the updates, new features and changes to FamilySearch.org. They are adding several new features for creating an online family tree. The group will also talk about how to use the search and filter features to find those illusive records and why you should create your own account for added functionality.

“Betty,” one of the puppies living at the Lucky Dog Animal Shelter got lots of attention from shelter volunteer, Cameron Peters at the organization’s Open House on March 24.

Benefit for peace

As part of the celebration of the 16th Annual Gandhi-King Season for Peace and Non-Violence, a buffet breakfast was held every Wednesday in March at Salvador’s to benefit the families of the victims of the May 2012 massacre when young people from Chapala to Jocotepec were kidnapped and murdered. Raffle tickets were sold for a one-week stay at the Gas Lamp Plaza Suites time share in San Diego, California.

Lakeside resident Rob Wells (L) was ordained to the diaconate of the Anglican Church of Mexico at Christ Church Anglican Fellowship on March 10. Present for the service was the Right Reverend Lino Rodriguez, Bishop of the Western Diocese.

Officers elected at the Annual General Meeting of the 904 Wing of the Canadian Air Force Association on March 14 were (L-R) Treasurer Hugo Beaudemin, President Mario Okunsky, Ist Vice President Keith Crockett, Immediate Past President Ron Hudson, 2nd Vice President Susannah Kelly and Secretary John Prichard. The officers will take their positions in July.

British Society

Michael Forbes, editor of the Guadalajara Reporter, makes a return visit to the British Society meeting set for Saturday, April 6, 1 p.m. at Manix Restaurant.

Laguna Chapalac - March 23, 2013

It was a hot time and lots of fun at the Tower of Power benefit to raise funds for a new relay station for the Chapala police on March 16. Chapala’s Cristiania Park was a great setting for the event sponsored by the Shrine Club.

Open dog house

Longtime resident of Lakeside Margaret Andlauer’s adopted daughters, Rose Marie (not pictured) Andrea and friend Heike recently visited from Germany. While visiting, they donated 9,000 pesos to help with the work done by Mi Bebe y Yo, an organization that helps disadvantaged new mothers with baby layettes for their newborns.

Busy administrator

Newly elected Ajijic delegado (town administrator) Hector España has jumped right into the middle of things. Do take note of his “clean-up” program utilizing the energy of local school kids who meet each Saturday morning at 9 a.m. at the Delegacion office just off the principal plaza.
