Letters To The Editor - April 18, 2020

Dear Sir,

The Lakeside Foodbank is doing incredible work and has fed over 200 families in the last ten days. It has been a huge help to the poorest in Lakeside and is being handled in such a smart and responsible manner. Please consider contributing.

Families who struggle to put food on the table under normal circumstances are under extreme pressure to provide for themselves at this time.

FoodBank Lakeside is working with small local stores (abarrotes) to create weekly packages of food and sanitary products (despensas) for needy families, while promoting best social distancing practices, along with scheduled pick-up times to minimize the spread of Covid-19.

Packages of essentials with a value of 300 pesos (US$15) are prepared and made available on a weekly basis.

FoodBank Lakeside consists of volunteers from the Mexican and foreign communities who have banded together to collaborate with other charities to maximize our combined efforts while minimizing duplication of existing services.

Please consider contributing in any amount you feel comfortable.

Dear Sir,

A message from Programa Pro Niños Incapacitados del Lago A.C.

First, we hope that everyone is well and safe in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

The children we care for are particularly vulnerable at this time. Many of them have compromised immune systems and serious conditions that are exacerbated by their close living conditions. Their families are forced to make trade-offs between food and medical care. The core mission of Niños Incapacitados is to assist with the cost of medical care that eases that impossible trade-off. Because of a government ordered shutdown occurring, many of our children and their families cannot now even afford food. During the course of the pandemic we are implementing a plan for providing food and medicine with a supplemental service enhancement called Food = medicine as part of our core mission to assist chronically ill children.

We lost our biggest source of funding for the year – the Annual Gala. The board has considered multiple options to close the gap on lost funding and decided the most expedient way to close the gap is through a direct funding appeal in the month of April.

You can donate on-line through Amistad Canada to obtain a tax receipt if you are Canadian. See www.amistadcanada.org.

We thank you for your help and assistance. We hope for your continued good health and safety.
