Thank you 'angels'

Dear Sir,

A quick note to thank two “angels” who rescued me after falling coming down the concrete steps at Yves.  After picking me up, they retrieved their car and drove me to the Red Cross in Chapala for X-ray and treatment.  I only have one name, “Harvey Bernier.”  They were both so kind, I would like them to be recognized for their care, concern and generosity.  Also many thanks to the doctor and staff at the Red Cross!

Thanks to Sally's friends

Dear Sir,

I sincerely appreciate all the notes and calls of sympathy from my late wife Sally’s friends in our community.  The family and I sincerely appreciate this.  As Sally wished there will be no memorial or service.  A donation to Cruz Roja Chapala in Sally’s name would be nice.  Thanks again for your love and support.

In defense of doctors

Dear Sir,

This is in regard to the letter Frank Slater submitted to the March 10 issue of the Guadalajara Reporter. In a heartbreaking letter, Mr. Slater states that he did not receive proper medical care from Doctors Francisco Arroyo Paz, Jorge Nicolas Valladares, Gustavo Jose Valladares and Jorge Arturo Barba Martin.

We live to fight another day!

Dear Sir,

What became of Surgery Host, the medical services provider that came to Lakeside with such a flourish a couple of years ago? I searched for them but gave up when I discovered that they had closed shop locally and withdrawn to Guadalajara, only to subsequently disappear from there too.

Thanks to the Lakeside community

This is an open letter to the Lakeside community from  jeweler Daniel Jackson Garcia, who together with his teenage nephew Miguel Angel Rivera Echeverria sustained extensive burn injuries from a gas explosion and fire that gutted the Ajijic workshop where they were working on January 21.

Huichols should consider benefits of mining

Dear Sir,

The recent article covering the concerns and plight of the Huichol people is thought provoking. The main concern cited is mining exploration by a Canadian company in their traditional lands. The problems of the Huichols are listed as poverty, hunger, marginalization and drought, to which could be added poor health care and lack of educational opportunities.
