If the young immigrants referred to as “Dreamers” are allowed to stay in the United States, they will contribute around $US2.1 billion to the U.S. economy over the next decade.
That’s the view of Josefina Vasquez Mota, the 2012 presidential candidate for the National Action Party (PAN), who launched her new book, “Nosotros los dreamers,” this week at the Guadalajara’s International Book Fair (FIL).
The volume comprises 44 personal stories of immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally as young children and have lived the majority of their lives north of the border.
Following the election of Donald Trump, around one million “dreamers” face an uncertain future. During his campaign, the president-elect promised to scrap the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DREAM Act that currently projects them from deportation.
