The Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra (OFJ) is set to play the music of Dimitri Shostakovich on Saturday, January 20, 7:30 p.m., before the opening of its first season of 2024.
During the concert, the classic silent film “Battleship Potemkin” will be projected, while the Shostakovich music that was included in the film’s 1976 edition is performed.
The concert revisits the premier of the movie about 100 years ago in Moscow during the throes of the Russian Revolution. Considered the masterwork of Sergei Eisenstein, the film was called visually stunning, one of the greatest movies of all time, and a piece of anti-authoritarian propaganda. It depicts the mutiny of sailors in the Imperial Russian Navy’s Black Sea fleet.
