The Vuelta Chapala is a 240-kilometer recreational ride for high-performance cyclists around Mexico’s largest lake, scheduled for Saturday, September 7.
This year’s event features a smaller group of cyclists from Mexico and the United States who will depart from the Chapala Malecón at 6:30 a.m. Participants will ride off in two groups and travel through Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos, Poncitlán, Ocotlán, Jamay, La Barca, Briseñas, Venustiano Carranza, Sahuayo, Comutlán de Regules, Tizapán el Alto, Tuxcueca and Jocotepec, before returning to Chapala by 4 p.m.
Transit and public security teams from each municipality will ensure the cyclists’ safety, and backup sweeper vehicles will assist those in need along the route.
Cyclists will make three stops for high-carb snacks: a 20-minute break at km. 66 in Jamay, another 20-minute rest at km. 125 in Cojumatlán, and a 30-minute break at km. 184 in San Luis Soyatlán. After finishing, the riders will gather at La Vela Plaza on the west end of the Chapala Malecón for a social gathering and dinner.
The enrollment fee of 5,950 pesos includes a kit with a professional cycling jersey, water bottle, socks, a shoe case, an official number tag and an access bracelet.
