Guadalajara NGO Nariz Roja succeeded in its campaign to raise five million pesos by July 18 to purchase medicines for children with cancer in five states (Jalisco, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Chihuahua and Durango), exceeding its goal by one million pesos.
The charity, however, this week again slammed federal authorities after Mexican Health Minister Jorge Alcocer defended efforts to purchase cancer drugs, claiming that reports of some shortages of medicines are valid, but most are “exaggerated.”
On its Twitter and Facebook feeds, the NGO accused Alcocer of lying, stressing that vital drugs are in short supply, and challenging the federal government to show proof of its purchases.
