InterNations, a global community for people who live abroad, has published its 2024 Expat Insider survey and, not surprisingly, Mexico fares among the top nations in most categories.
The survey covers getting started abroad and settling in, to work, finances and the quality of life, as well as including an “expat essentials” index, covering housing, administration, language and digital life.
Mexico, which earned first place as the overall best country for expats in 2023, was dethroned this year by Panama, but still hung on to second spot.
Mexico fared among the top three of the 53 nations in the survey for “ease of settling in,” and topped the list for “finding friends” and “local friendliness.” This country also won the top spot for “general happiness.” Close to nine in ten expats in Mexico (89 percent) say they are happy, over 20 percentage points more than the global average of 68 percent.
