A distinguished visitor to Puerto Vallarta his week has been the Italian Navy’s training ship, the “Amerigo Vespucci.”

The vessel is a full-rigged three-masted steel hull 82.4 meters (270 ft) long, with an overall length of 101 meters (331 ft) including the bowsprit and a maximum width of 15.5 meters (51 ft).
The Amerigo Vespucci’s current 20-month voyage around the world will see it traverse three oceans and dock in 28 countries.
The ship docked in Puerto Vallarta on Tuesday, June 18, and will remain in the port through Sunday, June 23. The visit was timed to coincide with celebrations marking 150 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Italy and Mexico.
Mexican Foreign Minister Alicia Bárcena joined Alessandro Modiano, the Italian ambassador in Mexico, to welcome the ship to Puerto Vallarta.
Modiano highlighted around 2,300 Italian companies now operate in Mexico in many sectors, noting that trade between both countries reached a record $US8.6 billion in 2023.
The Amerigo Vespucci will be open to visitors during its stay in Vallarta. Visiting hours for the public on Saturday, June 22 are from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 3 to 5 p.m.; and on June 23 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 to 7 p.m. No charge.
