Guadalajara’s transformed Trompo Magico Children’s Museum—a major infrastructure project of the current Jalisco administration—will open its doors on Sunday, June 16 with an official inauguration.
As of June 18, the general public will be able to visit this impressive, cutting-edge attraction, which is no longer specifically directed toward kids, but also older youths and their families. Visitors will be able to visit the space without charge through the end of June.
Now called the Jalisco Interactive Museum (Jalisco Paseo Interactivo or Japi), the attraction features 90 interactive and innovative exhibits, including virtual and augmented reality. The Werika Theater experience will pay tribute to the state of Jalisco, its symbols of identity, its culture and history, its most prominent and iconic characters, and its natural, cultural and historical riches. Werika is essentially “flying theater,” a simulator ride in which the illusion of flight is created through motion synchronized with film.
During June, the museum will be open daily from 1 to 6 p.m. Access will only be given to 400 people each day, of which 200 will also be for the Werika Theater. Forty tickets will be handed out each hour.
Since the Trompo Mágico closed for general renovations in 2019, the project has been transformed, with the plans almost tripling its surface area from 3,000 to 8,300 square meters.
The Trompo Mágico opened more than two decades ago but given the fast pace of technological innovation many of its exhibits had become outdated or obsolete.
According to official sources, the investment to upgrade the museum is around 700 million pesos ($US38 million).
Japi is located at Avenida Central 750, Colonia Residencial Poniente, Zapopan.
