Fatal crash shuts down highway

A rear-end collision between a tractor trailer and a cargo truck loaded with bricks early Tuesday, March 8, along the Guadalajara-Chapala highway about five kilometers past the airport, caused a massive traffic jam that lasted into the afternoon.

US fencers shine at GDL event

Team USA took the gold medal in the women’s team foil event at the Guadalajara Women’s Foil Senior World Cup, with Lee Kiefer, the current Olympic champion, taking a silver medal in the individual event and Maia Mei Weintraub making the top-eight.


Kiefer faced Italy’s world champion Alice Volpi in the individual women’s final, with the Italian winning by a single touch, 15-14. 

The event, the first of its kind held in the Jalisco capital, took place at the Fiesta Americana Hotel, with 143 individual competitors and 17 teams participating.
