A smaller PEACE
It would be a vast understatement to say that community leaders in the northshore were caught off-guard by the news of the demise of PEACE (Protection and Education, Animals, Culture and Environment) and its reincarnation as PEACE Punta de Mita, prompting the end of its community programs in La Cruz, Bucerias and other small towns.
Fundraiser for seniors
A fundraiser at Philo’s Bar and Restaurant in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle will contribute toward operating funds for the La Cruz Senior Center for the current year. The event is set for Wednesday, March 27, 7 p.m.
Fashion show
Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Bucerias and La Cruz will host their 5th Annual Fashion Show on Wednesday, March 13, 2 p.m., at Karen’s Place Restaurant at the beach end of Benito Juarez.
Going solar
Manos de Amor, the children’s shelter in Bucerias, is preparing to install solar panels on its rooftop. Representatives from eSun Energy (of Bahia de Banderas, Ajijic and Guadalajara) made an inspection of the location on Tuesday.
Fundraiser 1
About 50 people attended the successful Bingo and Schnitzel Fest, held at the home of Franz Painer and Joanne Walsh, to raise funds for Paraiso Felino, a no-kill cat shelter in San Juan de Abajo, located about 12 miles inland from the coast.
“Generous guests raised over 9,000 pesos,” said shelter owner Janina Erban, adding that the total represents a month’s worth of food for her 200 “residents.”
Casino Night
The Vallarta Yacht Club is sponsoring Casino Night, featuring popular casino games such as blackjack, roulette and Texas hold-em, on Wednesday, January 30, 6 p.m.
Immigration moves
A reminder to returning snowbirds is that the Instituto Nacional de Migracion (INM) office has moved out of Bucerias and is now in Nuevo Vallarta.
