Christ Church Lakeside

Christ Church Lakeside, a parish of the Diocese of the West in the Anglican Church of Mexico, will observe the last Sunday after Pentecost, Christ the King Sunday, November 21, by celebrating the Holy Eucharist Service in person and via Zoom at 10:30 a.m. in our location two doors east, and on the same side, of the La Huerta Eventos Center.

Maestros del Arte

A Mini Feria Maestros del Arte is on at the Lake Chapala Society, Friday and Saturday, November 5 and 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ceramics, copperware, wood masks, toys and instruments from Michoacán, ceramics from Tonalá, serapes from Jocotepec and Christmas creches, ceramic pots, drums and baskets from the Tarahumara in the Copper Canyon. Other goods on sale will be from Estado de Mexico, Oaxaca and Puebla.

Foodbank Lakeside

A fundraising bazaar to benefit the mudslide and relief victims in Ajijic and San Juan Cosala will be held Saturday, November 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Avenida de la Ribera, Riberas del Pilar 219-B. High quality almost new clothes, shoes, household items and even a poker table will be for sale.

Doggy fun

Lucky Dog Rescue and Adoption in Chapala is having an Open House on Sunday, November 7, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Come on out and enjoy a day cuddling puppies, loving on some adorable older dogs and have a burger, empanada and a margarita! And maybe you will find a furry companion to warm your home and heart. Covid-19 health protocols will be followed and masks will be required, except when seated. Open Circle

Sydney Gay presents “Lakeside Storytellers” at the next meeting of Open Circle, Sunday, November 7, 10:30 a.m. at the Lake Chapala Society (LCS).

Sydney Gay, co-producer of programs at The Red Piano, La Bodega, Huerto Café and the Auditorio de la Ribera, has brought together eight talented friends to create a story-telling showcase. Open Circle is the debut performance of a series dedicated to giving ordinary people a place to tell their extraordinary stories.
Standing alone with only a microphone, each storyteller shares a five-minute, personal story, with topics ranging from life-threatening ordeals to the thrill of show business; from going to jail to escaping war and poverty. The twists and turns of life are many.

Bridge anyone?

The Lake Chapala Duplicate Bridge Club reopens for face-to-face games Monday, November 8. Games are held Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 1:30 p.m. Supervised bridge is Wednesdays at 1:30 p.m. and the 299er game is Fridays, 9:30 a.m.

Chapala Birders

Tuesday, November 9, the Lake Chapala Birders will meet at 8 a.m. at the “Sculpture” (at the only traffic light in La Floresta, south west corner, opposite Restaurant Pranzo) and at 8:15 a.m. at the Pemex at the intersection of the Chapala-Guadalajara highway, leaving immediately for the Lake Cajititlan Marsh (a 30-minute drive). Wear face masks and practice social distancing.

Expect to see a variety of marsh and lake birds such as black-necked stilt, snowy egret, and perhaps American avocet. There will be a break for snacking at 11 a.m. Expect to be back in Ajijic by 1 p.m. You must reserve at least two days ahead by emailing John Keeling at This email address is being protected from spambots. Bird-walks are open to all those interested in birds, both beginners and experienced birders.

Remembrance/Veterans ceremonies

• The Canadian Veterans Support Association will hold a Remembrance Day ceremony, Thursday, November 11, 10:45 a.m. at Casa de la Cultura, Calle 16 de Septiembre 60 in Ixtlahuacan de los Membrillos. Seating is at 10:30 a.m. for the ceremony and a light lunch will follow. All are welcome.

• American Legion Post 7 hosts a Veterans Day service at 10:55 a.m. Thursday, November 11 at the Post, Morelos 114 in Chapala. All are welcome. A celebration and dinner begins 1 p.m. Music will be provided by Sweet Harmony. A 50-50 raffle will benefit veterans’ relief. The menu is smoked pork chops, garlic mashed potatoes and gravy, carrots, salad, roll and dessert. Tickets, 300 pesos, are available at the Post Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 7 p.m.

No tickets will be sold on the day of the event.

• ANAVETS Mexico holds a combined Remembrance and Veterans Day Service Thursday November 11, at Mama’s Musical Bar, Gonzallez Gallo 86 in San Antonio Tlayacapan, starting at 10:45 a.m. Attendees are asked to be seated by 10:40 a.m. The service is open to everyone. Thanksgiving Festival in Ajijic

Three civic organizations are holding a fundraiser Thanksgiving festival Saturday, November 13, noon to 8 p.m. at the Salon de Eventos La Huerta in West Ajijic. Enjoy live music by The Crooners and soloist Danali Sandoval, baile folkorico, a tango dance presentation by Joel de la O., a pie-eating contest, bingo, loteria, food and beverage offerings, arts and crafts, and more. All Covid protocols will be followed and masks should be worn.

The lakeside area food distribution company Traitte and a group of local restaurants are putting on this event to help Grupo Ecologista Alteño, Una Patita De Ayuda and Un Susurro Al Corazón, all non-profit organizations.

Tickets, 80 pesos, will be sold at the door on the day of the event and include entrance in a raffle for a turkey and restaurant dinners.

Democrats Abroad

Lake Chapala Chapter of Democrats Abroad presents a free Zoom presentation on: “Expat Taxation Challenges: Explore possible solutions that could save you time and money,” Monday, November 15, from 4 to 5 p.m.

Featured local speakers will be Patrick Oden (owner of Lakeside Tax Service and Certifying Acceptance Agent of the I.R.S.) and Ilona de Borhegyi.

International insurance

Hospital San Antonio and the Chapala Red Cross hold a seminar on how to correctly use your international insurance in Mexico at the Lake Chapala Society, Wednesday, November 17, 4 p.m. Four speakers will give information on what to do in an emergency and how to avoid paying additional fees to third party companies. Some of the insurance plans that will be covered include Medicare Advantage Plan, United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, AARP.
