U.S. Consulate’s Federal Benefits Unit introduces appointment-only system

The Consulate General of the U.S. in Guadalajara has announced important new changes to the Federal Benefits Unit (FBU).

The biggest change comes into effect on Monday, February 2, when the consulate establishes an appointment-only system for social security matters, and will not accept walk-ins. This means that claimants need to schedule an appointment using their social security number. The process can be completed by phone or email, or using the contact form on the consulate website.

The change is designed to save time and allow the FBU to check the records of claimants.

Jalisco is the largest beneficiary population in Mexico, with over 19,000 users, both Mexican and American. The FBU in Guadalajara pays out about US$12 million each month.

To request an appointment, use the toll-free number 01 800 772-6394, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 2 pm. Likewise, you may also request an appointment through the Consulate website (www.guadalajara.usconsulate.gov), or the Federal Benefits email: This email address is being protected from spambots.
