Fresh from the success of his Hollywood blockbuster “Pacific Rim,” Guadalajara-born director Guillermo del Toro has created the opening sequence for a new episode of The Simpsons.
Del Toro is behind the “couch gag,” the intro which differs in every episode, of this year’s Halloween special, Treehouse of Horror XXIV, which airs on FOX on Sunday, October 6. The Tapatio director is famed for his love of horror and monster movies and his opening sequence will feature monsters and villains from classic horror movies.
It is said that a guest appearance in The Simpsons, America’s longest-running scripted, primetime TV series, it the true measure of any celebrity’s fame, with previous guests having included Michael Jackson, Ringo Starr, James Brown, Johnny Cash, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Elizabeth Taylor, Tom Hanks, Mel Gibson, Buzz Aldrin, Stephen Hawking and Mark Zuckerberg. Del Toro will join comedians Ricky Gervais and Seth Rogen in having starred as a guest writer/director.
