The world premiere of the new James Bond movie “Spectre” takes place in London, England on Monday, October 26, with worldwide release set for November 6.
Several scenes for the movie were shot in Mexico City at the end of March. An elaborate and colorful Day of the Dead parade serves as the backdrop as Bond (Daniel Craig) carries out his mission in the capital. Agent 007 gets involved in plenty of action while in Mexico, including fighting a villain while precariously hanging on to a helicopter that is hovering above the Zocalo (main plaza). The filmmakers also carried out a simulated bomb blast in the heart of Centro Historico.
The filming was somewhat overshadowed by the news story that government officials had allowed the producers up to US$20 million in tax breaks in return for script changes that painted a more positive image of Mexico. Filmmakers later denied the claims that the nationality of an assassin was switched from being a Mexican to another nationality and that scenes showing the capital’s shantytowns were replaced with more attractive locations. They did not deny receiving tax breaks, however. Other locations in “Spectre” include England, Italy, Austria and Morocco.
