Marketing smoke and mirrors: Cucumber peelers and AI-OMG

As the trade war heats up in North America and buying stalls because of price hikes, it’s time for advertisers and marketers to step in and blow their smoke.

They know how to deal out illusions aimed at convincing you to buy just about anything. And they swear no animals were harmed in the making of frozen chicken dinners.

Here are some of what these geniuses have created in the past: 

1. Notice how discounts are not just discounts, but a “Special Discount.” One so special, you can’t stop talking about it for years. “Men come on it and take 20% off any Fire-Proof Unisex Apron.  So extraordinary that we at Gloves and Galoshes, LLC cut CEO bonuses to offer this ‘special discount’. Just for you.” 

2. And then there are people who buy more products when they are US$19.99 or $2,799, instead of US$20.00 or $2,800. “Look, dear, let’s take advantage, buy it now. They’ve knocked off a penny.”
