Jalisco Secretary of Tourism Aurelio Lopez Rocha (second from R) was a big hit at the Canadian Club meeting on November 7. Pictured with him are (L-R) Canadian Club co-presidents Dan McTavish and Michael Molloy and past president Anthony Wilshere. During the meeting lifetime memberships were awarded to Wilshere, Aurora Michel and Mary Prud’homme.
Thanks
The Lake Chapala Shrine Club’s first “Dine with the Shrine” event at Roberto’s Restaurant on November 1 was a great success. This is a tribute to the Lakeside residents who came out in large numbers to support the event. One hundred and forty meals were served throughout the day and Roberto donated 100 percent of the proceeds from the meals to the Shrine Club for their charitable activities. Probably not known to many in the community is that Roberto’s staff worked for half of their normal daily pay during this event. The next time you dine in Roberto’s give the waiters a special “thank you” for their contribution.
The next Dine with the Shrine event will be in January. Watch for the date and details in December. Again – thanks everyone for the great support.

Save the date of December 19 for the Love in Action Benefit event at La Mina, a private historical estate in Villa Nova. There will be fabulous food, an open bar and entertainment. All ticket receipts will be donated to the Love in Action Children’s Center. The estate is interesting, since gold mined in the nearby mountains was processed here. There are remnants of implements used in the process to look at, stone grinding mills and ore wagons. The entire original part of the home is made of adobe.
Last year’s benefit raised 170,000 pesos to assist with the center’s annual budget of 1.5 million pesos to feed, clothe, educate and house these deserving kids.
