Videos and photographs showing Mexican children as young as eight years old being armed as vigilantes to fight criminal gangs have shocked the nation and been disseminated around the world.
In the images, kids from Chilapa, Guerrero, are seen carrying rifles, with bandanas covering the lower part of their faces.
The report provoked the National Human Rights Commission to issue a statement demanding that federal and state authorities take steps to “protect the rights” of these children.
