The Astros de Jalisco upset the reigning champions, the Soles de Mexicali, to advance to the Western Conference finals of the Mexican Professional Basketball League (LNBP).
The Guadalajara-based team won the first two games of the three-game series, and will face either the Aguacateros de Michoacán or the Libertadores de Querétaro in the conference final. The Astros’ victory came as a complete surprise to many pundits, given that they were the only team to make the playoffs with a loosing record (8-10). The Soles were the number one seeds and the team with the best regular season record. Astros coach Sergio Valdeolmillos said his players will continue to work “with humility,” and he believes their experience in beating the Soles will serve them well for the remainder of the competition.
