Bottle tops help kids with cancer

Don’t throw away your plastic bottle and drink carton caps. They can be sold and the funds put to huge beneficial use.

pg3Over the past decade, the Guadalajara charity, Cómplices A.C., has helped more than 1,000 cancer patients through the collection of more than 500 tons of recyclable materials, including hundreds of thousands of bottle caps, that have helped the Old Civil Hospital’s low-income patients with their medicines, radiotherapy treatments and even a few transplants.

The charity frequently sets up campaigns with collection containers shaped as a large heart in commercial malls and other public places.  Those who cannot find one of these collection points can take their bottle tops, as well as PET plastic containers, to the Torre de Especialidades of the Antiguo Hospital Civil de Guadalajara “Fray Antonio Alcalde,” on Coronel Calderón 777, Colonia El Retiro.

Another charity working at a national level to collect bottle tops and other plastic lids, also for cancer patients, is Banco de Tapitas A.C. This charity also installs heat shaped containers in public plazas, and has many collaborative businesses and individuals at which plastic tops can be delivered. You can see all the many drop-off points in Jalisco and other states at bancodetapetes.org.

A permanent heartº container is installed in the entrance to Walmart in the Cuidadela mall in Guadalajara.
