Gay pride ‘double’ celebration

Two pride marches bring diversity, tolerance, color and smiles to the streets of Guadalajara on consecutive Saturday afternoons.

pg5First up is the Marcha Guadalajara Pride 2023 on Saturday, June 3, which has the theme “Todos los colores, todas las identidades” (All colors, all identities).

The marchers will set off from the Minerva Glorieta from 2 p.m., turning onto Avenida Lopez Mateos and taking Avenida Hidalgo down to the Plaza Liberación in the city center.

Around 50 floats will take part in the procession.  All those who wish to participate in the march are asked to get to the Minerva by 1 p.m. A DJ will entertain at the start, while another will greet marchers as they pass by Avenida Chapultepec, half way along the route.  More musical entertainment awaits them at the Plaza Liberación, where a full party will ensue.

The march is expected to last around two hours, and participants are advised to use sunscreen, bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

A week later, on Saturday, June 10, a second march takes place: the Marcha de Orgullo, organized each year by the NGO Unión Diversa of Jalisco. This year’s theme is  “Lesbianas presentes, desde siempre” (Lesbians present, forever).
