Cristianía Park overhaul underway

The Parque de la Cristianía Urban Renewal project officially began right after the conclusion of Chapala’s Carnaval celebrations, just as promised three weeks ago by David Zamora Bueno, Jalisco’s Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) chief.

Under a contract awarded by SIOP to Urbafix, S.A. de C.V., a work crew arrived at La Cristianía Park on Wednesday, March 5, to begin the first phase of the project. The initial task was to disassemble the chain-link fences surrounding the park’s four sports fields.

Phase one includes the renovation and installation of six tennis courts, a basketball court, three paddle courts, four pickleball courts, and one volleyball court. Additionally, a new entrance to the sports area will be constructed from Avenida González Gallo at the intersection with Calle Degollado, along with an interior distributor walkway.

Urbafix, S.A. de C.V. was one of five construction companies to submit bids for the SIOP-E-DRE-OB-CSS-0109/2025 contract. The company was awarded the contract for 13,105,183.23 pesos, with the work scheduled for completion in 120 calendar days, from March 3 to June 3.

The overall Cristianía Urban Renewal plan involves an investment of just over 500 million pesos (US$24.8 million)in state funding over two years, as announced last January by Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro. The plan will include a major overhaul of the park, improvements to the adjacent streets Paseo Ramón Corona and Avenida González Gallo, and modifications to the urban landscape in the Malecón tourist zone, all aimed at enhancing the area’s appeal for both visitors and locals.
