Ixtlahuacán hosts dazzling Dia de Muertos Festival

If you want to fully immerse yourself in the spirit of Día de los Muertos, there’s no better place than Ixtlahuacán de los Membrillos.

Just over the hill from Chapala, the town will host its Eighth Annual International Día de Muertos Festival from Friday, November 1 to Sunday, November 3.

The program kicks off on Friday with an inaugural parade at 5:30 p.m., which will circulate through the downtown area via Calles Zaragoza and Cuauhtémoc, pass the central plaza, and end several blocks down Avenida Santiago.

What sets the Ixtlahuacán festival apart from similar events in the region are its Day of the Dead creative arts contests, sponsored by the local government, with a substantial prize fund totaling 417,000 pesos. This economic incentive draws significant participation and remarkable talent.
