Jalisco cops feted in arrest of US drug trafficker

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has recognized the labor of seven Jalisco state police officers who were instrumental in the arrest last year of a U.S. citizen wanted for international narcotics trafficking.

pg3aThe officers participated in the arrest of Macalla Lee Knott, 30, in the Tonala suburb of Guadalajara in August 2022. After her capture, she was handed over to U.S. authorities and deported to North Dakota, where she was charged with coordinating a major drug distribution enterprise.

Knott plead guilty in federal court in March of this year to directing shipments of methamphetamine, cocaine and fentanyl to various distributors across the upper U.S. Midwest and arranging payments to suppliers in Mexico.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of North Dakota, Knott, of St. Cloud, Minnesota, traveled to Mexico in March 2020 posing as a tourist, but with the intention of associating herself with the Sinaloa Cartel.  She had previous convictions, and in 2016 received a 4.5-year prison sentence for attempting to sell methamphetamine to undercover Minnesota state troopers.
