Mazamitla is one town that really deserves the name “Pueblo Mágico.” The quaint streets, the delightful balconies, the beautiful pagoda-like church, the incredibly delicious food, a night before a crackling fireplace with a ponche de pasiflora in hand ... what more could you ask?
Manzanillo, “Mexico’s busiest port,” is located 190 kilometers south of Puerto Vallarta on the Pacific Coast. High up in the hills above the town, I found a fascinating place called El Tecolote Ecosite, hidden away in an exotic jungle.
Temacapulín – called Temaca by locals – is a pretty little town located 85 kilometers northeast of Guadalajara in Los Altos, the Jalisco Highlands.
Any online search for Jalisco’s highest peaks will show el Nevado de Colima, el Volcán de Fuego and Tequila Volcano at the top of the list.
Sabius is an organization founded by students of the Tec de Monterrey university for the purpose of helping senior citizens share their knowledge and experience with the younger generation. Along with courses in auto mechanics, cooking and English conversation, Sabius recently added hikes and excursions to their curriculum.
I recently camped at Balneario el Rincón, a waterpark near Teuchitlán, with several friends who are into birdwatching. One of them approached me, while I was setting up my tent, with a large printed announcement.
The Guadalajara metro-area suburb of Pinar de la Venta lies on the northern edge of the Primavera Forest and has numerous woodsy stretches good for hiking.
