Day of the Dead theme park

Last year’s Day of the Dead Calaverandia Festival will be repeated in the Parque Avila Camacho Friday, October 25 through Monday, November 18.

Organizers say the “theme park” will feature 30 attractions inspired by the November celebration along a 1.6-kilometer route.  Among the spectacles will be a 4D multimedia show, the Underworld Interactive Tour, Musical Catrinas, an Interactive Cemetery, a Neon Zone and Ball Pool, as well as character meet and greets, video mapping, a gallery and more. In addition, artists will create a seven-meter-tall multimedia alebrije.

The evenings-only event is organized by Altea Corp, which also runs the annual GDLUZ sound and light festival.  Creative Director Marcos Jimenez says much was learned from last year’s inaugural festival, and appropriate changes have been implemented for 2019.  These include more activities for children and a wider choice of cuisine.

Calaverandia Festival hours will be 7 p.m. to midnight daily, except Mondays when the space will be closed. (It will be open Monday, November 18 for Revolution Day holiday.) Cost for adults, 495 pesos; children from 4-12, 255 pesos. VIP tickets are 995 and 585 pesos (see website for details on benefits).

The Parque Avila Camacho is located on Avenida Avila Camacho, across from Plaza  Patria. For more information, see calaverandia.mx.
