Several hundred Chapala area expats paused this week to honor veterans of the armed services at ceremonies commemorating the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice ended the bloody hostilities of World War I.

World War II vets attending the American Legion Post 7 ceremony received ribbons in recognition of their service to the nation.

Canadian military men lined up for the March of the Colours at the Remembrance Day service.
The Royal Canadian Legion Lake Chapala Branch and the 904 Wing of the Canadian Air Force Association gathered for a Remembrance Day service in San Antonio Tlayacapan, while American Legion Post 7 hosted a Veterans Day program in Chapala.
Both events were followed by social gatherings where those in attendance sported the traditional red poppy lapel pins symbolizing a tribute to fallen heroes.
