Indie film fest comes to Ajijic

Ajijic’s Cinemas del Lago has been chosen as the venue for the 11th edition of the MIAX International Independent Art and Film Festival, scheduled November 3 through 5.

pg24“MIAX is a platform that was created to help independent artists and filmmakers share their art,” says founder-director Fernando G. Sandoval. “It emerged 11 years ago. We started by screening six short films and since the first edition we have been one of the first and main promoters of cinema in Jalisco, the first to have a film section directed by women, touching on uncensored social issues, without political or corporate guidelines or conditioning.”

The Ajijic program kicks off on Friday, November 3, at 3 p.m., with “Summer Ends Soon,” a feature film produced in Kazakstan, followed by “Fog,” a feature from Russia at 5 p.m.; the documentary “Guañuna” from Ecuador at 7 p.m.; and “Sebastian Moro,” an Argentina-Bolivia documentary at 9 p.m.

The Saturday, November 4 lineup starts with four short films from Iran at 3 p.m., continuing with “Youth,” a Russian feature, at 5 p.m.; two shorts from Argentina; a United States/Mexico production and another from Cuba at 7 p.m.; and the Jalisco feature “Una Comedia Pretenciosa” at 9 p.m.
