Canada may be experiencing the lowest point in its relationship with the United States, but its ties with Mexico, and Jalisco in particular, appear stronger than ever.
Canada will be the guest country at the 28th edition of Guadalajara’s Festival Cultural de Mayo (May Cultural Festival), which will run from May 8 to 30.
A total of 463 performers and artists will participate in the festival, with 336 from Jalisco, 65 from Canada, and 62 from other parts of Mexico and the rest of the world.
Among the Canadian musical stars will be pianist Louis Lortie and violinist Timothy Chooi, who will perform with the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra on May 23 and 30, when part of each program will be dedicated to celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of French composer Maurice Ravel. Lortie will also give a solo recital on May 28.
